Problem
When trying to update Avid using Help > Update Avid > Check for Updates and going through the Avidian Avid Update Service, it says that the update failed.
Or when running the update file, it gives an error that it “Cannot create a file when that file already exists”.
Cause
This can be due to one person using another’s Avid account and probably updating it.
This left a reference to that user’s redirected folders, but the current user does not have access to it.
By navigating into Documents\Avidian Technologies, we see the other path.
Solution
Uninstall Avid from Windows’ Apps or Programs and Features.
Unzip ClsIDCleaner.exe which is attached below.
Right-click it and click Run As Administrator. It should show something like this.
Removed 542 class keys.
Removed 2387 class/CLSID keys.
Install using the full Avid installation.
